Admin & General Office Support Team Members

Given the limited size of our office and staff, our need for administrative help is minimal for the time being.  Still, we welcome volunteers who are interested in being on call for envelope stuffing projects and the like.  We also highly encourage those of you interested in providing administrative assistance to explore the Outreach & Expansion Team volunteer opportunity.  Even if you’re an introvert, we’ll train you and ensure you’re prepared, comfortable, and set up for success before you ever begin serving in that capacity.

Program Expansion & Outreach Team Members

Seeking parents, university students, education professionals, skilled networkers, and volunteer with a general interest in helping Project REAL reach more students!

As part of the Expansion and Outreach Team, you will be tasked with introducing educators to our organization and the curriculum we provide.  Your volunteer service on this team will be on a project-by-project basis, so you will be asked to focus on specific schools to meet your individual goal.  the goal of each ‘Project’ is to have Project REAL being used by every grade level at one elementary school, one middle school the majority of that elementary schools students are likely to attend, and one high school which the middle school’s students are likely to attend (in school district speak, this has been referred to as a feeder pattern and/or as a ‘Vertical Team’).

Working project by project and vertical team by vertical team, you will help Project REAL provide our resources to the students most in need, while also helping us to grow community awareness so that over the course of the next 10 years we can find our way into every school in the county!  Team member positions are available in both the Greater Reno and Greater Las Vegas areas of Nevada.

Classroom Resource Creation & Review Team Members

Seeking authors, copywriters, teachers, or just anyone with a general interest in civics & the law.  University students are welcome to apply!

In the Spring of 2016 Project REAL began expanding upon our work from the prior 10 years.  The most significant expansion stemmed from a decision to work towards offering one unique curriculum to each grade level, from K-12.  While we currently rely on a blend of purchased curriculum and material we’ve created in-house, our goal is to be able to offer a K-12  curriculum of Law Related Education that has been designed, written, and produced almost entirely by Project REAL (with Play By the Rules being the sole exception).

As part of the Textbook Creation and Review Team, you will be asked to contribute to our growing body of work.  Perhaps you’ll focus exclusively on generating content for the books.  Maybe you just happen to be great at proofreading.  You might be tapped to help with ensuring all of our curriculum meets common core standards if you have an intimate knowledge of the system, or even just a knack for it!  We also have an obvious and vital need for attorneys to serve as technical advisors by reviewing the material, ensuring all information being provided is accurate and clearly explained.

Translation Team Members

Seeking any skilled bilingual volunteers.  University students are welcome to apply!

Project REAL works to break the playground to prison pipeline by discouraging illegal behavior and encouraging civic engagement in students from Kindergarten through 12th grade.  To achieve our goal, we provide free curriculum and activities to the schools of Nevada.

As part of the Translation Team, you will be asked to contribute to our growing body of work.  First and foremost are the several Project REAL produced textbooks which have recently been revised or are currently being revised.  By the end of 2016 we anticipate having 5 textbook materials available only in English. With Nevada’s population, this just will not do.  Join us in ensuring all students of Nevada are able to fully comprehend the materials we’ve provided them through their schools by joining our translation team.  Later in 2017, we will also have a growing need for daily use / outreach materials to be translated to Spanish.

Web & App Development / Management Team Member

Seeking tech-savvy volunteers to help us measure the work we do!

As we work to expand our services and secure the funding needed to facilitate that expansion, Project REAL is being asked to provide more detailed metrics and measurements of students progress as they interact with our various activities.  To that end, we are looking for Tech Savvy volunteers to help us develop a mobile app with accompanying web suite for students to use as a pre-test and post-test mechanize.  By asking the students to use their student ID numbers as their usernames, we hope to collect and easily track students progress from year to year in our Sequential Education Program.

Additionally, we may soon be adopting new branding guidelines, so we are also looking for a volunteer who would be able and willing to develop a new website.  We of course understand we will be shouldering any hosting / traffic fees, and are simply looking for you to donate your time first and foremost.

Whether you’re a former IT professional looking to donate your skills to an organization in great need of them or someone who is interested in adding an impressive, useful, and charitable accomplishment to your portfolio as you apply to paid positions, Project REAL will ensure you have the support you need to be successful in your volunteer work with our organization.

We hope you will choose to start your path to volunteering at Project REAL by creating a profile at http://bttr.im/fekfb or by emailing our Program Director for more information at mkamer@projectrealnv.org today.  If you think you might be able to contribute in any way – be it significant or minor – please contact us soon.
